Snow-covered trees line a path in a tranquil winter scene. Dark, bare branches and a thick white blanket create a serene, landscape.

At first sip, this white hot chocolate feels comforting and indulgent. Then comes a faint warmth from white pepper — subtle, surprising, and just a little unsettling. A luxurious winter treat inspired by Narnia’s White Witch. Beautiful and sweet at first. Then the spice reveals itself — just enough to remind you she is not kind. A winter drink that feels beautiful, cold, and quietly powerful.

Ingredients:

(makes 1 mug)

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • ½ cup white chocolate, chopped

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • ⅛ tsp white pepper (or slightly less)

  • Tiny pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Heat milk gently over low-medium heat until steaming.

  2. Remove from heat and whisk in white chocolate until smooth.

  3. Add vanilla, salt, and white pepper last.

  4. Taste — the pepper should be subtle.

  5. Serve immediately.

Note: use Ghirardelli or Lindt chocolate for best taste

White hot chocolate is creamy and comforting and looks like winter in a mug. For days when you would like a little extra spice in your drink and for days when you want to enjoy that spicy creaminess with a good book. This pairing imagines a different offering — a white hot chocolate inspired by the White Witch’s first kindness. Sweet, warming, and edged with white pepper, it’s comfort with a cost.
