In our fast-paced world of next-day shipping and last-minute purchases, there’s something especially meaningful about creating a gift with your own hands—especially when it’s for someone as special as your Mom.
This Mother's Day, I'm embracing the spirit of slow gifting—a philosophy rooted in thoughtfulness, sustainability, and connection. Rather than giving a ready-made bouquet, I took time to craft a flower arrangement that reflects not only beauty, but memory, warmth, and the quiet love found in everyday moments.
A Tribute to Cozy Traditions

Growing up I didn’t learn floral design from my Mom, but we shared something just as beautiful—gardening. We would spend our Saturdays together browsing through greenhouses and garden centres, soaking in the scent and the colours of spring. Those outings were unhurried and full of conversation, whether we were admiring perennials or choosing hanging baskets for the porch.
This arrangement, in a way, brings those moments to life. I can still picture the greenhouse aisles - sunlight through the glass, the scent of damp soil, and rows of flowers waiting to be chosen.
The Meaning Behind Slow Gifting
Slow gifting is less about perfection and more about presence. It begins with choosing flowers that hold meaning—blooms that reflect the season, a memory, or the person who will receive them. From there, the process becomes unhurried. You take time to arrange the stems with intention, noticing how the colours and shapes come together. As you work, your thoughts naturally turn to the recipient and the small ways the bouquet might brighten their day. In this way, the act of creating becomes part of the gift itself, allowing the process to be just as meaningful as the flowers that are finally given.
A flower arrangement may not last forever, but the thought behind it lingers. In a world that often rewards speed, slow gifting reminds us that the most beautiful things are made with time and love.
The Arrangement: Inspired by Mother-Daughter Afternoons

The flower selection was chosen not just for colour harmony, but for the feelings they evoke:
Coral Tulips and Gerbera daisies – Vibrant, like the happiness shared during a drive to the nursery.
White Stock and Veronica – Serene and understated, reflecting the quiet grace that mothers often embody. They are also my mother's favourite flower colour.
Peach Carnations – A classic symbol of admiration and affection; and a soft colour that is a traditional favourite for Mother's Day.
I also chose a thrifted glass bowl —not just for the aesthetics, but for sustainability, and the charm of something unique that adds character to the gift. If you love soft floral palettes, you might also enjoy exploring the 10 Prettiest Pink Flowers for your Garden for future inspiration.
Make It Your Own
Consider pairing your flowers with a few thoughtful additions. A handwritten note tucked gently among the blooms can make the gift feel especially personal. Along with the flowers you could include a book that you think you both would both enjoy, giving you something to talk about and share later. Perhaps something from the Summer Reading List to Nourish Your Spirit.

Whether you’re crafting this arrangement for your mom, your grandmother, a mother figure in your life—or even yourself—know that you are honouring a tradition of care, creativity, and connection. And that’s what Mother’s Day is really about.
Let’s remember the moments spent together that may seem ordinary at the time, but become extraordinary in memory.

Happy Mothers Day,
